Mise-en-Scene-
Location/setting:
In this picture the location is situated in a factory, this is the very beginning scene which structures the rest of the film together. We see there has been an accident - Joe Lamb's mother has unfortunately died. Throughout the beginning we see how the other locations and colours of contrasting scenes create us too see Joe in a more melancholy manner, therefore this is why this scene is and important location in the film as it sets us off to uncover the background of the characters.
In contrast to the scene above we see Joe's best friends house - Charles. Charles home is more homelike, although there is fighting between some of the siblings in the household they all love each other, we see this through the load of light in the house this shows its very warm and loving, in addition the setting is very busy and noisy, this symbolises homelike. Whilst the picture above us shows a completely different setting. I chose this scene to be important as it gives more depth in the movie seeing a contrast between the two families this also makes us sympathise for Joe and we hope things get better for him.
In the picture across, the audience is witnessing the plot beginning to unravel. In this scene, the kids, which includes: Jackson Lamb and his friends Charles, Cary, Martin, Preston and Ally, are filming a scene at an old train station. While filming at the old train station, the kids witness a United States Air Force train being derailed. When the train derails, it causes major damages to the old train station and explosives are going off around them. This location plays a vital part in the film as it helps set the story throughout the rest of Super 8. It helps tell the story because of the context which was held in the train was a mysterious white cube, throughout the film we wonder what it is and bad things start to happen throughout the film as soon as the train derailed and the cubes were exposed.

Props
Mothers Necklace:
Props are used in films and in the art of film making to help us tell the story and make us understand the story more efficiently. We see in Super 8 loads of props one of them being his mothers necklace. We witness that Joe holds the prop of the necklace every time something tense or something isn't going right. We see the prop for the character is used for reassurance. This as the audience gives us more depth into Joe, and we automatically know when Joe holds his necklace something isn't quite right,Symbolically it can represent that his mother is still with him and he feels safe in her presence or he always felt safe in her presence therefore this necklace is very reassuring and important in the film.

Super 8 camera:
The camera prop is an important prop in the film as it gives us a basis of the film, it creates the film to have two stories, for example the film originally started off as the children are making a movie and as they are a train derails which causes the plot of the film, therefore the camera is an important prop as the basis or the movie. In addition the camera prop also catches footage of a mysterious creature luring in the dark, this creates tension and suspense among the audience.

White Cube:
The white cube prop, is one of the most important props in helping us tell the story of super 8. This is because the main part of the film is understanding what these white cubes are and ever since they have appeared bad things have started happening. The cube is very mysterious throughout the film we wonder what it is. It shakes and vibrates and is very perplexing, it keeps us engaged in the film as we are eager to understand what the strange prop is...

Alice's Dad's Car:
Alice's Dad's car is more of a symbolic prop, as this dirty old car can represent himself, as its old fallen to pieces and dirty, we can suggest that it symbolises her dad as he himself has a dirty scruffy look, as he has grown he hair out its messy and unkept, he is always looking scruffy and he is a struggling alcoholic who's life has fallen to pieces in itself.
